These programs center around the dignity of each person we are providing items to. We often take for granted that the ability to care for ourselves isn’t financially feasible for all our neighbors. The standard and goal of these programs is to help everyone in our community take care of themselves in a way that creates confidence and pride.

HYGIENE BANK

Program Overview

914Cares Hygiene Bank provides bags of hygiene essentials to recipients of our Bags of Love. Our Hygiene Kits contain shampoo, conditioner, body and hand soap, hand sanitizer, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and deodorant.

Hygiene is linked to good health:

  • Physical Health: Washing yourself and staying clean kills and removes illness-causing bacteria from your body, lowering your risk for disease and preventing you from spreading diseases to others.
  • Mental Health: Practicing good body hygiene helps you feel good about yourself, which is important for your mental health.

Program highlights
  • Each Hygiene Kit is curated to care for the whole person, to create a feeling of pride as they take care of themselves and to build esteem.
  • While our goal is to serve as many individuals as possible, providing high quality items is of the utmost importance. We consider the needs of as many of our recipients as possible to be sure that these kits are inclusive of the unique needs of all hair types.
  • We are members of Simply the Basics Hygiene Bank Association. Our membership allows us to collaborate with other hygiene banks across the country, participate in the furthering of public health, and attend workshops and trainings led by health experts.

PERIOD PROJECT

Program Overview

914Cares Period Project provides a month’s worth of period supplies in a Flow Kit to menstruators in need. Flow Kits contain tampons, pads, and panty liners.

Our goal for this program is to ensure no student misses school, no adult misses work, and no person misses out on daily life because they are unable to afford the period supplies they need.
